German Academy Dhaka is the first institution in Bangladesh where teammates are both bangladeshi and german. We are a few bangladeshis who studied in Germany and currently work in various professions there. Our german counterparts are also highly qualified and currently working in a different profession. Furthermore, our bangladeshi teammates attended prestigious bangladeshi public universities.

We had little proficiency in the german language when we arrived in Germany. That is why we have had so many troubles. Some of our friends are even unable to support themselves with a part-time job. We can share a true story. One of our teammates found a part-time job at a packing company, which did’t need much labour at all. Upon returning from work, our colleague was on the verge of passing out and his finger was dripping with blood. As I mentioned, it was just packing!
Upon witnessing this, his german friend told him that “Geld wächst nicht auf Bäumen”. In english, “money does not grow on trees”.

This is not a fiction about one of our colleagues; it is the genuine story of the majority of Bengalis in Germany. Our bangladeshi students are not used to this level of hard work. Every day in germany, we face numerous problems as a result of our lack of german knowledge. We can’t find excellent jobs, our wives can’t acquire visas, and our students can’t even survive in Germany. You can’t do anything in Germany unless you speak german. That is why our teammates felt we needed to do something for our bangladeshi people. This language school is the result of a genuine desire to help fellow bangladeshis.

Why the new school?
There are a few german schools in Bangladesh, but none have native german speakers as teachers. Without native-speaking teachers, our bangladeshi students can acquire some basic german but cannot speak it well. Sometimes their pronunciation is mispronounced. For this reason, German Academy Dhaka was established. This is the first language school where the majority of the instructors are nationals and native speakers of Germany. So that students can learn german with correct and proper pronunciation. Now, we can guarantee that no matter what issue we have encountered, we don’t want our newcomers to have to deal with it.

Beyond language school?
Yes, German Academy Dhaka is Bangladesh’s first institution that goes beyond language school. Many bangladeshis have a lot of potential but don’t know how to explore it. We have talked with a few students. They are highly intelligent and qualified for high-paying jobs in the german market, but they are unsure how to obtain them. We have assisted some newcomers, and we believe now we can help much more. That is why, in addition to teaching the language, it will be the finest place that will help to unleash potential. We will organise career counselling every week. Our goal is not just to establish a school or teach languages, but also to help students discover the proper path.

In Germany they say “Aller Anfang ist schwer”, which indicates that every beginning is difficult. However, we can tell our students that if they start to integrate in to the german culture, they will find satisfaction and the goals they want to reach will be achieved. This is precisely what we want.
